How to choose the right nbn® speed for your household
Match your speed to how many people are online and what they do — and avoid paying for speed you won’t use.

Choosing a speed is less about chasing the biggest number and more about how your household actually uses the internet. Start with three questions: how many people are online at once, what they do, and how often you move large files.
A simple rule of thumb
- 25–50 Mbps: one or two people browsing, emailing and streaming in HD.
- 100 Mbps: three to five people, several 4K streams, video calls and gaming.
- 500 Mbps and above: large households, creators uploading video, and anyone downloading big games or backups often.
Look at evening speed, not just the tier
The typical evening speed shows what customers can expect during the busiest hours. If your household is busiest at night, that is the number to compare.
Wi-Fi matters too
A fast plan cannot fix weak Wi-Fi in the far bedroom. If coverage is the problem, a mesh system can make a bigger difference than a faster plan.
