Slow speeds are often caused by Wi-Fi rather than your internet connection. Work through these steps:
- Test with a device plugged into the modem by Ethernet cable. If that is fast, the issue is Wi-Fi coverage.
- Restart your modem and the device you are using.
- Move the modem to a central, elevated, open spot away from microwaves, mirrors and fish tanks.
- Use the 5 GHz network for nearby devices; it is faster over short distances.
- Pause large downloads, updates or cloud backups that may be using bandwidth.
- For large or multi-level homes, consider mesh Wi-Fi.
Remember that during the evening peak, speeds may be closer to your plan’s typical evening speed.
